Ten Thousand Ayear Volume 3 Samuel Warren 9781346593258 Books
Volume Three begins just after Titmouse has won his seat in Parliament. As a well-to-do landowner and successful member of Parliament Titmouse becomes the darling of society, with several young ladies - and their parents - hoping to catch his eye. Of course, these same people would have been outraged had he even spoken to them when he was a shop clerk. Charles Aubrey, the former owner of the estate whom Titmouse ousted, continues to study for the bar while laboring under the crushing debts owed Titmouse. The wild card in the story is the lawyer Gammon who seems to regret his role in having replaced the worthy and well-respected Aubrey with the vain, foppish Titmouse. What's more, Gammon seems to possess some hold over Titmouse, who seems genuinely afraid of Gammon.
Spoiler alert:
In the end, Aubrey discovers the nature of Gammon's hold over Titmouse and regains control of the estate.
I highly recommend all three volumes of this series. They are well-written, with a sly wit that adds interest to over 1500 pages on the complex subject of British property succession.
